Valerie Guthrie
February 14, 1954 – March 15, 2023

Valerie was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on February 14, 1954.

She was cherished by her husband, Randy Hood, her parents Carl and Dorothy Guthrie, her sister Carol, her brothers Paul and Ken Guthrie and scores of family and friends worldwide.

Valerie touched everyone and everything with her grace, kindness, love, caring, encouraging spirit and gratitude. Wherever she went she made lifelong friends. Incredibly intelligent,Valerie excelled at absolutely everything she did. Amazingly intuitive, she could look at someone and could tell all about them in seconds.

Her life coaching touched and changed hundreds of lives. Every day hundreds of people are still experiencing the benefits of their touch by “Dr. Val” and her “valcabulary”.

Valerie had an amazing partnership and marriage with her best friend Randy Hood who she met February 6, 1976 in SunValley, Idaho.

On Valerie’s birthday, Valentine’s Day 1976, Randy took Valerie to Jackson Hole,Wyoming and Valerie became Randy’s lifelong ski partner.

Starting out, their goal was to work every summer to be able to ski every winter. They skied at almost every ski resort across Canada and the US.

In 1984 Valerie and Randy decided to get married and eloped to Maui and got married on the beach.

As total soulmates, together they built an amazing life centered around their passion of helping others succeed and be healthy. Building several successful businesses all around an amazing lifestyle, their philosophy was that if it wasn’t fun they would go to the airport and go somewhere. Together they traveled the world building their businesses, having fun and making lifelong friends wherever they went. Their passion was always personal development and spiritual growth, reading everything they could find and attending every seminar they could get to.

In every business they built Randy was the front person and Val was the stabilizing factor and detail person that held everything together. In 1984 they launched their first home based company that expanded to 250 dealers across Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Since then Valerie and Randy have built several multi million dollar businesses all focused on helping others succeed with their health and finances.

It wasn’t always easy. In the 80s Val discovered she had cancer. By October of 1988 through diet, nutrition, exercise and researching hundreds of books she was totally recovered. This became the driving force of their focus on optimal health and personal and spiritual growth.

Valerie was all about hiking, skiing, paddle boarding, skydiving, biking and anything that was exciting. She never complained and no one who watched her would guess that she had gone through more injuries and health crises even beyond cancer. A horseback injury when she was young created ongoing problems like knee reconstructions and eventually 2 knee replacements.

Amazingly, one day she was actually driving a semi-truck and was hit by a train going 60 miles per hour and miraculously escaped with only a sprained ankle. She was clearly supposed to be here to help others.

In spite of her cancer and multiple injuries she was always ready to get back up and ski or ride again. Thousands of lives have been touched, blessed and enriched because of Valerie.

We miss you terribly Valerie but know your love is with us as is ours with you. The family is holding a celebration of Valerie’s life on April 30th, 2023 at Milestones Restaurant from 3pm to 6pm. Many will want to RSVP for dinner following the celebration.
